It is widely believed that the Pandavs were the pioneers in constructing the temples at Kol Kandoli and Bhawan, expressing their reverence and gratitude to the Mother Goddess. Positioned on a mountain adjacent to Trikuta Mountain, five stone structures overlook the Holy Cave, representing the rock symbols of the five Pandavas.
The earliest historical figure associated with the Holy Cave is Guru Gobind Singh, who, as tradition has it, visited via Purmandal. The ancient foot track to the Holy Cave passed through the well-known pilgrimage center.
Several traditions regard this Shrine as the holiest of all Shaktipeeths, where the Mother Goddess, the Eternal Energy, resides, attributing it to the falling of Mata Sati's skull. Alternatively, some believe her right arm fell at this location, although certain scriptures differ on this point. While acknowledging that the right arm of Sati supposedly fell at Gandarbal in Kashmir, there are stone remains of a human hand in the Holy Cave of Shri Mata Vaishno Deviji, popularly known as Varad Hast, symbolizing the hand that grants boons and blessings.
